CIPPI Awards 2007 Bring Prizes for Prinect Users BVD Druck & Verlag AG and Yamazen PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 09 November 2007

Two Heidelberg customers are among the winners of the CIPPI Awards 2007. BVD Druck & Verlag AG, based in Liechtenstein, and Japanese company Yamazen Communication won awards for their extremely cost-effective and efficient integration solutions. CIPPI representatives today presented BVD Druck & Verlag with the first prize in the category "Biggest improvement in efficiency and customer responsiveness as a result of process automation".

The Liechtenstein-based integration specialists started end-to-end networking of the company in 2003, and the entire process will be completed next year. BVD's reported return on investment (ROI) of more than 760 percent over a five-year period is mainly due to shorter response times, greater customer and employee satisfaction, ongoing process improvements and the ability to analyze production on a continuous basis without having to allocate additional resources.

The current system at BVD Druck & Verlag boasts JDF-based integration of all management, prepress and press processes and will soon incorporate postpress too thanks to Prinect Postpress Manager, which is already in the process of being installed. Once the Xerox iGen3 digital printing system has been linked up using Prinect Digital Print Manager next year, implementation of the JDF workflow will be complete.

"When we first made a start on process integration a few years ago, we were very skeptical as to the actual benefit for the company. As a result, we are now even more certain that we made the right decision back then by investing in our long-term competitiveness," explained BVD CEO Peter Göppel at yesterday’s award ceremony in Vaduz.

Second place in the category "Best cost/benefit realization" went to Yamazen Communications in Japan. Yamazen has been offering an innovative web-to-print solution since 2000. In order to be able to produce a wide range of print products with maximum efficiency and cost-effectiveness, Yamazen installed JDF-enabled Prinect prepress and press products from Heidelberg as well as an MIS of a third-party provider. This enabled the company to dramatically cut makeready times and substantially reduce the amount of prepress waste. The integration solution saves the company around 160 minutes each day in terms of job tracking and delivery scheduling. In addition to this, each job takes ten minutes less at the prepress stage. The result is a return on investment (ROI) of more than 1,500 percent.

"Integrated workflow solutions from Heidelberg give users considerable economic advantages - the results of the CIPPI prizewinners demonstrate this very clearly," comments Dr. Jürgen Rautert, CTO at Heidelberg, referring to the performance of Heidelberg customers. "These results put a more objective slant on the debate in the sector as to the cost-effectiveness of workflow solutions," he adds.

About CIP4:
CIP4 brings together manufacturers, consultants, and end-users from the print media industry and related industries. The primary aim of the organization is to support and develop the manufacturer-neutral JDF and PPF data formats and to introduce them onto the global market. The certification process for products that support JDF, which is being planned by CIP4, will play a significant part in achieving this aim. Further information on CIP4, including membership details, is available on the organization's website, www.cip4.org.
