HEI Performance - Heidelberg Focuses on Integration Know-How PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 11 June 2008

Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) is using drupa to underline its unparalleled integration know-how in the print industry. The company's entire drupa trade show presentation in Halls 1 and 2 showcases a total of 18 print shops that are all fully integrated using the Prinect print shop workflow, from the MIS and prepress to press and postpress. All demo print jobs shown at the trade show are therefore created using Prinect.

To this end, Heidelberg integration experts integrated around 45 presses, platesetters, and postpress devices in Prinect via a total of 90 data servers ahead of the trade show and did so in record time. Some 43 miles (70 kilometers) of cable had to be laid for this purpose. Heidelberg is also using "virtualization" in the field of IT saves 47 percent of energy. The company uses software that enables the number of available data servers to be increased virtually. This allows more software applications to be run on a data server and fewer servers are therefore needed. Power consumption is cut significantly and the amount of heat that needs to be dissipated is reduced.

"Through its trade show presentation, Heidelberg is demonstrating a level of know-how in integrating all processes in print shop management and production that is quite unique in the print media industry. Visitors to the Heidelberg stand can witness the complete industrialization of the print shop workflow. Print shops can now be operated transparently and cost-effectively, and the potential for increasing productivity can be unlocked efficiently. And key to this is the Prinect print shop workflow from Heidelberg," says Dr. Jürgen Rautert, Member of the Management Board of Heidelberg, who will also be responsible for sales management at the company from July 1, 2008.
