Lexmark has launched three new all-in-one wireless printers that are targeted at small office/home office (SOHO) professionals and combines the flexibility of wireless connectivity, the efficiency of automatic two-sided printing and the convenience of easy installation.

"Lexmark's new all-in-ones deliver business-class productivity with the added advantages of wireless to help busy professionals get more done quickly, easily and affordably," said Paul Rooke, Lexmark executive vice president and president of its consumer printer division, in a statement.

The three new printers that join Lexmark's wireless AIO lineup are the Lexmark X6570, the Lexmark X7550 and the Lexmark X4850.

The Lexmark X6570 Wireless AIO is a wireless four-in-one printer priced at $149.99 (U.S.) or $199.99 (CDN). It has business-class features such as two-sided printing, fax, a 25-page automatic document feeder for copying and faxing and photo printing with Lexmark's exclusive evercolor2 inks, which is water resistant and offers increased resistance against fading and smudging.

Other features include the ability to scan, fax and access media card slots wirelessly. The X6570 also has print speeds of 28 pages-per-minute (ppm) monochrome and 24 ppm in color. It also features a 48-bit flatbed color scanner and is compatible with a PC or Mac. As well, it includes the Lexmark Toolbar that makes Web printing more efficient by eliminating unwanted content such as advertising or graphics from Web-based documents.

The Lexmark X7550 is targeted at SOHO professionals who require wireless mobility along with photo and fax capabilities. Priced at $199.99 (U.S.) or $249.99 (CDN), it has the same features as the Lexmark X6570 but with print speeds of up to 30 ppm black and 27 ppm color. In addition, the X7550 features a 2.4-inch color LCD display.

The Lexmark X4850 is for users that have a strong interest in wireless and photo capabilities and this device is priced at $149.99 (U.S.) or $179.99 (CDN). The X4850 enables users to scan and access media card slots wireless and features two-sided printing as well as a 2.4-inch color LCD display.

In addition to these new wireless AIOs, Lexmark also introduced a single-function wireless printer and two traditional all-in-one printers.

The first of these is the Lexmark Z1520 Wireless Color Printer, a single-function device that lets users print or access media card slots wirelessly and has print speeds of up to 30 ppm black and 27 ppm color. The Lexmark Z1520 is priced at $129.99 both in Canada and the U.S.

The Lexmark X5070 and Lexmark X5495 Color AIOs are for users who do not require wireless printing but need a feature-packed printer that is easy to use. The X5070 is targeted at the small office and home office with a strong need for fax and occasional photo printing. Features of this device include a sheet-fed design, built in handset and print speeds of up to 24 ppm in black and 17 ppm in color. This printer also offers a 30-page automatic document feeder for only $99.99 (CDN) or $89.99 (U.S.).

The Lexmark X5495 offers printing, flatbed scanning, copying and faxing, as well as card slots. This printer has print speeds of up to 25 ppm black and 18 ppm color with a 15-page automatic document feeder for only $99.99 (U.S.) or $129.99 (CDN).

All of these products will be available this fall online at Lexmark's Web site and at retailers across North America, with the exception of the Lexmark X5495, which will begin shipping in December.

Carmi Levy, senior vice president of strategic consulting with AR Communications Inc., said these devices are a good move on Lexmark's part, as they reflect a strong trend that is going on in the printer market.

"Every peripheral device is sprouting wireless capabilities in one form or another these days and that is especially true with printers," said Levy. "Pretty much every printer that comes out now includes wireless capability ... and devices that don't have wireless are considered at a disadvantage in the competitive marketplace."

However, he said that while Lexmark is touting their new wireless AIOs as a great business tool for SOHO professionals, Levy believed that they are more for the home users that requires some printing capability to complete work that users have brought home.

"[They are] a good addition to a print fleet but not as the only printer installed in a small business," he said.
